Cardiac care the focus of Calvary Adelaide program

Do you know how to exercise for good heart health?

Calvary Adelaide Hospital has an extensive cardiac service including a rehabilitation program that provides education and exercise to improve cardiorespiratory fitness and strength, reduce cardiac symptoms and improve psychosocial wellbeing.

Mark is one of the program’s past participants.

“I joined Calvary Hospital’s Cardiac Rehabilitation Program and have enjoyed it immensely,” Mark says. “To do something positive in your recovery from surgery is very satisfying and to exercise and chat with others who have experienced similar cardiac events is definitely worthwhile. The staff have been highly supportive throughout the program.”

The program is held over six weeks, twice a week, for two hours. Complementing the physiotherapist-prescribed, individualised exercise component, the program includes education sessions conducted by a cardiac nurse and a multi-disciplinary team of health professionals.

The program is available to patients who have various cardiac conditions and are referred by their treating doctor.
