What we offer

Our iron infusion service includes the supply of iron medication as part of the total treatment cost, with the medication readily available on site in the Emergency Department.

This allows us to provide treatment without delays or additional out-of-pocket pharmacy costs for patients.

This means:

  • Your iron medication is included in the $300 fee – no extra pharmaceutical costs.
  • Treatment can be provided without needing to visit a pharmacy first.
  • You are cared for by a specialist-led emergency doctor and an experienced nursing team.

How it works

1.  Referral

Patients are required to submit a GP referral for treatment.

2.  Treatment

If an iron infusion is clinically appropriate, we can provide it in the Emergency Department.

3.  Monitoring and next steps

You’ll be monitored during treatment and provided with clear advice on what to expect after your infusion.

Frequently asked questions

What is iron infusion?

An iron infusion is iron given through a veing (IV) to help treat iron deficiency anaemia.

Your treating team will confirm timing on the day. You’ll also be monitored during and after your infusion. Please allow approximately 2 hours for the treatment period; this may vary depending on the current wait time at the emergency department.

Side effects can occur and are usually mild. Rarely, serious allergic reactions can happen, which is why you are monitored.

You will be required to submit your GP referral letter.

No other preparation is required. Your treating doctor will guide you based on your situation.

Unless you have an unexpected reaction, most people can return to normal activities after treatment.

We recommend arriving before 10:00am where possible, as mornings are often the smoothest time for treatment. We’re open 24/7, so you’re also welcome to come in early before work or at a time that suits you.
