Fees & payments

If you are an Australian resident and hold a Medicare card, a portion of the cost of your visit will be covered. However, an out-of-pocket fee will also apply, as detailed below.

Payable on the day of consult, prior to discharge.

The total bill is higher than $460. Once the total account is paid, Care 24-7 will submit a claim for Medicare rebates. Reimbursement typically occurs within 24 hours.

  • Partial rebate may apply to radiology
  • Most blood tests are covered

ED consultation fees are not claimable under private health insurance.

ED fee applies regardless of outcome: admitted, discharged or transferred.

$0 (no out-of-pocket fee) if the claim is accepted – unless claim denied by Company (employer) on the day of injury or later.

  • Valid WorkCover claim must be provided
  • Full company and contact details required
  • Signed approval from the patient’s manager must be provided on the day
  • If the claim is denied, the patient becomes responsible for the full cost

  • Private health cover is required if condition is not covered or approved by DVA at the time of admission

Radiology,  pathology, other tests, discharge drugs, other specialist fees: Medicare may cover some of these services.

Other fees

For certain additional services, such as Medical Imaging, there may be additional charges that are sent directly from the service

provider to you and part of the fee will/maybe above the Medicare schedule fee. Invoices for these services ( including take-home items such as crutches, etc.)

will be mailed to you from the service provider.  

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a referral?

You do not require a referral, unless you have booked an intravenous iron infusion

You don’t need private insurance unless you are admitted to the hospital.

Patients can present to the Calvary Adelaide Emergency Department within 7 days of discharge from Calvary Adelaide Hospital, and will be treated at no charge, so long as:

  • the surgery was at Calvary Adelaide and the patient stayed in the hospital overnight. (Day surgery patients do not qualify.)
  • the symptoms are assessed by the emergency doctor as being the result of complications associated with your admission and treatment.

Please note that no other Calvary hospital in South Australia is covered by these criteria.

From 1 November 2025, Clinpath will invoice patients directly for blood tests performed if they are not admitted to Calvary Adelaide Hospital. You can claim your eligible Medicare rebate directly, and the invoice will be capped at a maximum gap of $160. Patients under 17 and over 75, and Gold Card Veterans, remain bulk billed.
